Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change

Appreciative Coaching: A Positive Process for Change, was written by Sara Orem, PhD, Jacqueline Binkert, PhD, and Ann Clancy, PhD, is designed for anyone that does one-on-one work with the people that can create change in their organizations. Why limit this sort of appreciative coaching to just the workplace? I would be interested in this book from the viewpoint of a caregiver and think it might be worth checking out as a possible way to help with things such as overcoming caregiver burnout or preparing someone for being a full-time caregiver.

The authors of this book are all involved in business coaching: Sara Orem is a faculty member and coach in the online learning School of Business and Technology at Capella University, and is the principal of her own coaching firm. Jacqueline Binkert is an executive coach who specializes in working with leaders and teams during times of change. Ann Clancy is president of Clancy Consultants and has worked with community organizations, large corporations, and federal agencies.

Drawing on their experience, the book teaches the reader how to tap into, or rediscover, their excitement about their present life and future possibilities. It builds on a sense of wonder the reader discovers, or rediscovers, then guides them through four stages (Discovery, Dream, Design, and Destiny) that help them to feel inspired and gives them a view of themselves and their future that will help them to achieve their goals for their present and future.

This is the kind of book that I can see helping with the process of getting through caregiver burnout and learning to take things in a more relaxed and stress-free manner. Can't you? Diane Brennan, vice president, International Coach Federation 2005 and 2006, says that Appreciative Coaching is "...a great resource to add to your business or personal library."
