MRSA: Drug Resistant Staph Infection Warning

Be extra careful of scrapes - particularly if you have been around a hospital. The news was talking last night about a really bad drug resistant staph infection that has already killed at least one small boy. Skin infections start when bacteria get into a cut or scrape, and may heal by themselves, any that do not should be looked at by a doctor as soon as possible.

The best defense against something like this drug resistant staph infection is to educate yourself as much as possible about it.

Visit sites like the Center for Disease Control and read what they have listed about staph infections and how to prevent and treat them.

Another good source of information is the Antibiotic Resistance Web Site at the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health website. They explain what this new drug resistant staph infection is.

Known as MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus), this type of staph infection is resistant to some kinds of antibiotics, which makes it very dangerous.
