House heater not working

House heater went out a while ago, leaving me needing to go out and cut more wood to make sure that I can keep the house warm all night for my dad just in case the heater does not come back online tonight.

I am getting so damn sick and tired of the "will it work?" game that the heater in this house is playing. I need to get ahead enough in bills to be able to get the thing overhauled by someone, but with over $2,000 just in electric bill due there is not much chance of the heater being fixed any time soon.

Inauguration Day

I'm sitting here watching the inauguration with my dad. I wish that my mom was here, but I feel she is, even if I can not see her. I remember things she has said over the years, and I can think of what she would say about it.

Earlier I tried to wake my dad, who had fallen asleep in his chair, and knowing he wanted to see this I started to wake him and caught myself when I almost said "Wake up mom." It had been my mom I was always waking up to watch something she wanted to see.

I remember her telling me of living in New Orleans years ago and feeling it was not right that blacks could not come into the diner she worked at, she had to take their meals to the back door for them. Of how just after she got there, having come from California, she automatically went to the back of the bus to smoke a cigarette and how that got her into a lot of trouble - a white woman at the back of a bus in the deep South.

This is a very wonderful day for this country, and I know that, if only in our hearts, my mom is here watching it with me and dad. I know as well that President Elect Obama's grandmother is with his family today, watching in unspeakable pride as he takes the oath of office.

Heater working - sort of

Well, the house is at last able to be kept warm - I just don't know how long that will last. Between the efforts of my brother and nephew the heater furnace has been torn apart and cleaned and seems to be working, I don't trust it enough for me to sleep all night, but I am getting more sleep than I had been. I'm just not certain that the heater might not suddenly stop working in the middle of the night when it's -40 F out there.

I am at least not having to use the electric heater, kitchen oven and burners on the stove to keep house warm. That's nice. Now if I can just figure out getting the fuel tank filled so that I don't have to worry it will run out of fuel at any minute along with concerns of it stopping working or otherwise malfunctioning.

I need to get someone that knows them systems out here to overhaul it as soon as I can afford to, but that will be a while. Saving money is not exactly easy at the best of times, with the way of the economy at the moment it is next to impossible to get put of a month with even a dollar, much less enough to start a decent savings.
